Classes will focus on general tactics and strategy training, and will include targeted homework assignments to help each student individually and realize their full potential. Each class is designed to be interactive for kids, and will consist of lectures, and group exercises, with prizes given out at the end!

In this class kids will learn the fundamentals of chess, tactics, and different checkmates. They will also learn tournament rules and how to succeed in a tournament. The class aims to build a strong foundation before kids start learning different openings and strategy.

This class will focus more on strategy and game analysis. Students in this class will be required to notate their games in class and analyze them as part of their homework. The instructor will go over the game analysis in the beginning of each class.

Coach WFM Alexandra Botez is a member of the Canadian Olympiad Chess Team, and former president of the Stanford University Chess Club. She is a 5 time girls national champion in Canada and won the U.S. girls nationals when she was 15. She also has 8+ years of teaching experience.
Coach Hayk Manvelyan is a National Master with an ELO rating of about 2300. He has been teaching chess at various chess programs for over 4 years. Hayk won the North American Open (under 2300) twice and the Far West (under 2000). He has won games vs several International Masters. He is now a student at UC Santa Cruz.
